Rooney hits his Century: 100 Goals for Manchester United

A congratulations is in order for Wayne Rooney today as the 23 year old England striker hit his 100th (and 101st) goal for Manchester United in the Red Devil’s decisive 5 – 0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium today.
Rooney’s first goal for United came on September 28th, 2004, in a Champions League match against Fenerbahce. In fact, Rooney scored a hat trick upon his debut, and an assist as well. And this net carnage set the tone for Rooney’s career for club and country.
Year Goals Appearances
2o04-2005 17 43
2005-2006 19 48
2006-2007 23 55
2007-2008 18 43
2008-2009 20 49
2009-2010 4 3
That total an impressive 102 goals in 241 appearances for Manchester United.
Rooney joins a list of Manchester United centurians including legends such as Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, George Best, Stan Pearson, Mark Hughes, Ryan Giggs, Ruud VanNistelroy, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Rob and Ritesh will likely cover the details of United’s win today, so look out for an in-depth post match analysis, but I wanted to wish a Congratulations to the Boy Wonder from WDKF!
What a great year for Wayne. A continuing fantastic football career, an awesome wife (I love Colleen), and a baby due in October.

and hes still 24.
that was a frustating first half wasnt it. jeez.
Yeah, slow start. Plenty of chances though.
I had the Ashes on audio so there was no shortage of excitement :-)
I didn’t really watch alot of the match as I was glued to the action at the Emirates but from what I saw Wigan were pretty good until they conceded in the second half which is when they opened up and eventually capitulated. It’s a good bounce back from United after their loss but the real test for them will be against the mighty Gunners who are firing on all cylinders! PS: Pretty good effort to hit a century of goals in just over five seasons.
Great finishing by Wayne in the second half, hope he scores as well next gameweek against arsenal and United take the 3 points
What’s surprising is how Rooney has begun heading goals in as well. A task that was earlier fulfilled by Ronaldo in the box. Its great to see Owen back scoring as well. Not to forget Berbatov doing something! I would be surprised to see Arsenal lose next week, although it might depend upon their injury list which already has Fabregas in it and might increase further with Celtic to face in the midweek.
