Real Madrid picked up all three points in their season opener against Deportivo, with Cristiano Ronaldo opening his account in La Liga with a penalty kick.

Los Blancos’ new signings were out in force in the Santiago Bernabeu, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and  most recent signing from Liverpool Xabi Alonso all started in the match. But it was Kaka who stole the limelight when his through ball slipped between Juan Rodriguez’s legs to find Karim Benzema, whose shot hit the near post and rebounded onto the feet of Real captain, Raul.

Deportivo equalised in the 30th minute when Juca’s cross found Riki’s head, exposing the flaws in Real’s defence.

The lead was restored when Cristiano Ronaldo successfully converted a penalty kick when Raul was fouled by Aranzubia.

Just after the restart, Juan Carlos Valeron equalised for Deportivo when he was found unmarked on the edge of the penalty area, after taking one touch to control the ball he expertly guided the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

On the 60th minute, the lead was restored again with a stunning striker by Lassana Diarra.

The home side looked impressive in terms of attacking but its the flaws in defence that were more noticeable.
