The rumour mill is hotting up, with Manchester United preparing for life without Edwin Van Der Sar

It is widely expected that this will be the Dutchman’s last season, with Tomas Kuszczak also unhappy at being behind Ben Foster in the pecking order. As a result, United have turned their attentions to 23 year old highly rated CSKA Moscow goalkeeper, Igor Akinfeev. The keeper has been subject of enquiries from both Bayern Munich and Arsenal, but it is United that interests him.

The Russian number one has expressed his desire to play Premier League football and was quoted “”CSKA is a great club but every player would love to prove their worth at United.”

Of course, we have three international goalkeepers at Old Trafford, but the jury is still out on Foster to become the number one. His natural talent is undoubted and he is an excellent shot stopper. However, the odd mistake has left a question mark above his head. Remember Tim Howard? Made about 4 errors in his last season and got shipped out to Everton, where he has proved he is an excellent keeper. Ferguson has never been patient when it comes to the position between the sticks, so it will not surprise me to see this transfer happen in January, seeing Kuszczak leave the club. (Which i would not mind as i think the Pole is as dodgy as an eight bob note)

Whatever happens, Edwin’s gloves are gonna be pretty hard to fill
