Chelsea 1-0 Porto
French striker Nicolas Anelka’s second-half goal maintained Carlo Ancelotti’s unbeaten streak as Chelsea manager. A through-ball from Salomon Kalou gave Anelka a clean run for a one-on-one with goalkeeper Helton who saved the striker’s first effort but the follow-up shot gave the Londoners the lead and a winning start in the Champions League.
Besiktas 0-1 Man United
United had fluffed a host of chances before Paul Scholes headed a rebound from a Nani shot. Scholes became the highest scoring Englishman in the Champions League as his goal gave the visitors the three points in Istanbul.

1-0 wins for both Premier League clubs last night, hope the 2 playing today will manage to score some more.
United should work on the tactics, playing 1 striker has not done any good for them in too many games
nope playing 1 striker has only got us to two champions league finals in a row!
the only thing i would change is personelle..last night i would have played rooney wide left and Owen through the middle..in European games it makes sense to pack the middle and take it from there..also with Roo wide we could have switched to 4-4-2 in the flick of a switch. Wazza looked isolated last night with Nani looking like a bag of shite
The Besiktas fans were awesome weren’t they? So loud and up for it!
best fans ive heard in a long time…was awesome
Nice post. I can’t wait for the champions league to start up again.
