Roman Abramovich’s Yacht, the Eclipse: A Tech Geek’s Dream

In light of her maiden voyage from Hamburg last week, allow me to introduce The Eclipse, a £724 million ($1.2 billion) 557 ft yacht owned by your favorite and mine, Roman Abramovich.
But don’t expect to see photos of the Russian Chelsea owner sunning himself in speedos because the Eclipse has been outfitted with an anti-paparazzi laser shield. Yes, Dr. Evil just broke into a jealous rage.
According to Wired, “Lasers sweep the surroundings and when they detect a CCD, they fire a bolt of light right at the camera to obliterate any photograph.” However, the force fields will sometimes be turned off so guests on Romie’s yachtski can make their own frame-able memories.
The Eclipse is the fourth installment in Roman’s yacht fetish and she boasts some incredible features…..
-Two helipads
-Two swimmingpools, one of which morphs into a dance floor when drained
-24 guest cabins with 6 ft wide cinema screens installed in each.
-Retractable roof
-Windows which can withstand missile attack. Yes, missile attack.
-60 person crew
-the largest and most expensive in the world yacht title

And Roman has also just purchased a £55m estate on the Caribbean island of St Barts that spans 70 acres so he can have a destination when setting sail.
Speculation also has Roman making a grand entrance in South Africa next Summer as he may travel in style to the World Cup.
Ugh. And I’m debating over $150 shoes.

my god, thats a beast. really like the anti-paparazzi laser shield, never knew such thing existed.
should be able to submerge like a submarine with that price tag.
Slippery slope though with the anti-pap shield. Where to draw the line? Can Britney Spears get a belt with anti pap lasers next?
I just need to know how to get into Romie’s inner circle…..
Maybe you should offer to be his “Less is More – Style & How to be Tasteful” advisor. He needs one badly!
Alternativey, learn to pilot a submarine. Apparently, the boat has one stowed in the blunt end, so that Roman can escape if the pap-detectors fail!
So this is why Chelsea have been constrained in the transfer market of late. Allegedly Mr A has lost half his fortune in the past three years making him only worth about £5 billion, so yes a three quarter of a billion pound boat sounds very sensible duh. Reminds me of the “white elephant” signing of Sheva…very glamorous, but ultimately useless in the game of football, will be worth fcuk all in three years time.
Shevchenko was awesome at Milan. He just chose the wrong club and probably the wrong country.
Milan’s system suited him perfectly.
Chelsea’s system and pattern of play during his time at the club was designed for a different type of player.
funny innit…with all those warmongering gadgets you would think that Roman was some sort of Russian gangsta! erm…..
60 person crew?!
and people say there was an unemployment crisis!!
Anyone think he’s over-compensating for something?
He’s disgusting. Just hope there’s a stray ice-berg hanging around somewhere. Just think of the good he could do in the world with that sort of money and the respect he could earn. Repellent!
The vessel pictured is not the Eclipse.
