Carling Cup: Welbeck secures next round progress
Danny Welbeck proved to be invaluable as he scored the only winner for the Carling Cup match which opposed United to Wolves yesterday night at Old Trafford. United played most of the match with 10 men, as Fabio was sent off on the half hour mark after he slipped and caught Kightly while trying to get the ball after mistakes from Evans and Brown failing to clear the danger.
United however were not really troubled by Wolves, with Carrick and Nani back in the squad, while Owen started, and a rare start for Kuszczak in goal, and eventually on 66th minute, following a wonderful one-two with Owen, Welbeck took his chance and scored the only goal of the night. His goal secures United’s progress to the 4th round, joining the rest of the Big 4 and other teams still involved.
