England’s World Cup Song to get the X-Factor treatment?

Rumours have already started that Simon Cowell has been asked by the FA to inject the X-Factor into the England World Cup Anthem.  We’ve already talked on here on whether England can indeed win the World Cup and who you would pick in your squad. So who will sing the England World Cup Song for 2010?

Peter Kay, James Corden, Kasabian, Robbie Williams, Kaiser Chiefs and McFly are all favourites with the bookies. I noticed whilst researching this that a fan favourite seemed to be McFly? You’re probably as surprised as me with that one.

Now that Simon Cowell’s name has been mentioned; Leona Lewis, JLS and Susan Boyle have been added to the bookies lists. Although Susan Boyle is Scottish!

Obviously English fans relate our football songs back to Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions versions but could they make it again for 2010?

Maybe one of the squad will do a rap like John Barnes’ from the New Order’s World In Motion World Cup song from 1990?

I’d like to see Kasabian, Blur or Ian Brown doing a World Cup Song for 2010 but can’t see them working with Simon Cowell. But you always get more than one song released and by the sounds of it, the FA want to be successful in the charts and the pitch. So there’s probably going to be an album to accompany the main anthem.

What do you think of the above choices as favourites and Mr Music Supremo Simon Cowell’s supposed involvement? Or does it not bother you who does sing England’s anthem for 2010?

Maybe we at WDKF should make our own song?  Or maybe not…

I am a former BBC travel show presenter, now filmmaker currently working with BBC education. I’m also a musician and am writing a football musical. (I’m a Gooner). I have a couple of England songs, one which I have recorded as a demo. They are both great terrace singalongs for 2010. NO AMATEUR STUFF.

Who fancies giving me a hand to getone of them to number one?

Capello has said there will be no “official” song for England so there will be lots of “unofficial” ones instead!

Disappointed I had wanted to see Beckham doing the John Barnes rap!

Since there’s no official song this year – boo hoo! we came up with our own track: “Chant Like An English Fan!” it’s really cheesy (but shouldn’t an unofficial one be crappy?) but we’re told it’s catchy…

    Come on England…!

Three Lions will take some beating in my opinion, but already there are more than 36 England entries on World Cup Song 2010 Competition
